WordCamp EU 2014: A Conference for Marketers? [Sponsored] by @nikolicdragan

WordCamp is a WordPress conference known for its friendly, community-driven environment. Content has become a #1 marketing tool, and as one of the most-used content management systems, WordPress has a lot to offer for everyone, including marketers. In my opinion, one of the best job opportunities for marketing folks can be a conference that has nothing to do with marketing. Imagine all the people at the conference who don’t sharing your perspective and knowledge. Individuals like WordPress developers, designers, and contributors who need exposure, plus agencies and companies wanting their products to get some traction. Everyone needs a marketer. You could make some of […]The post WordCamp EU 2014: A Conference for Marketers? [Sponsored] by @nikolicdragan appeared first on Search Engine Journal.

L.A.’s Porn Industry Is Back After Brief Moratorium

Well, that didn’t last long The Los Angeles porn industry — hamstrung by a series of roadblocks in recent years — is back in action after a self-imposed one-day moratorium on X-rated filming, prompted by an adult performer testing positive for HIV. Not for the Faint-Hearted: 11 Daring Ideas for Conversions by @DholakiyaPratik

You know what happens when something gets mainstay? It gets boring. For consumers, over the years, every new ad seems to be just another ad. And there’s nothing engaging, enticing, or provoking about these ads anymore. While consumers have nothing much to lose, advertisers flirt with direct losses, which can cost them millions of dollars. Martin Lindstorm, in his book Buyology, enumerates how companies like Ford spent millions of dollars during a season of American Idol (along with Coke and Cingular) and ended up getting absolutely nothing from that spend. These are hard times for advertisers, and this applies to […]The post Not for the Faint-Hearted: 11 Daring Ideas for Conversions by @DholakiyaPratik appeared first on Search Engine Journal.

What Really Happens When Someone Clicks Your Facebook Like Button by @kevanlee

Funny, we’ve had the Facebook Like button along the side of every Buffer blog post for the past several years. And I don’t think I’ve ever clicked it. I’ve hoped that others would, of course. I hope they click all the share buttons. But until now, I’ve never known what that experience was like for the end-user. What’s it like to actually share a story to Facebook? And how can I make it a better experience? We talk a lot about reversing the decline in organic Facebook reach and succeeding with Facebook marketing. Maybe we’ve been overlooking a quick win right under our noses. The Facebook […]The post What Really Happens When Someone Clicks Your Facebook Like Button by @kevanlee appeared first on Search Engine Journal.

5 Elements to an Effective Email Link Pitch by @linkbuildingjon

Building real links that make sense requires human interaction. I am a firm believer that websites don’t link to other websites, rather people link to other people. Worthwhile links are those placed as an editorial vote by a human being, not automatically generated by a robot. You need to engage with other people to build these links, which makes effective outreach imperative. Outreach is typically done via email. The most important portion in outreach link building is what I call the “link pitch” – the message you craft to convince another person to link to you; the build up to where […]The post 5 Elements to an Effective Email Link Pitch by @linkbuildingjon appeared first on Search Engine Journal.

Houston Astros Fan ‘Dunks’ the World’s Worst First Pitch

We have a new contender for worst first pitch ever. Rapper 50 Cent has held the not-so-coveted title since his amazingly awful first pitch at a Mets game in late May. Now, an unassuming Houston Astros fan is poised to take his position. See also: Minimalist Posters of Every Major League Baseball Stadium The fan dunked the terrible first pitch at a game on Tuesday night before receiving a comforting hug from Orbit, the Astros’ mascot. It’s OK, poor, uncoordinated fan. We’d probably crack under the pressure, too Your browser does not support iframes. LinkPatrol Update: Top-Requested Feature Added, First Reviews are In by @itsduhnise

Last month, Search Engine Journal introduced LinkPatrol, a WordPress plugin we’ve developed that empowers site owners to find, review, and clean up outgoing links. Since then, we’ve been collecting feedback. (Thank you responders!) We got a lot of interesting answers to this question: What’s the one thing you would add to LinkPatrol? One of the most popular answers: The ability to nofollow or strip links in blog comments. Why do people want to strip links from blog comments? Probably the same reason we do– the dreaded Link Removal Request. Nearly every week we receive an email imploring us to remove links, which are almost always coupled with a disavow […]The post LinkPatrol Update: Top-Requested Feature Added, First Reviews are In by @itsduhnise appeared first on Search Engine Journal.

Sitemaps Best Practices Including Large Web Sites

One of the key Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies for web sites is to have high quality sitemaps helping search engines to discover and access all relevant content posted on that web site. Sitemaps offer this really simple way for site owners to share information with every search engine about the content they have on their site instead of having to rely solely on crawling algorithms (ie: crawlers, robots) to find it. The Sitemaps protocol defined at www.sitemaps.org, is a now widely supported. Often web sites and some Content Management Systems (CMSs) offers sitemaps by default or as an option. Bing […]The post Sitemaps Best Practices Including Large Web Sites appeared first on Search Engine Journal.
